Prof. (Dr) Thomas Mathew is a distinguished Senior Consultant in Nephrology at Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut, bringing over 53 years of exemplary service to the field. A pioneer of nephrology in Kerala, he was trained under the legendary Prof. K.S. Chugh at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Prof. Mathew is credited with establishing and developing nephrology departments in Kerala’s government medical colleges and initiating critical innovations in dialysis protocols, including Peritoneal Dialysis and CAPD.
Renowned for his deep clinical insight and academic rigour, he played a leadership role in formulating the renal transplant authorisation frameworks for the state. A visionary mentor, he has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and holds multiple Fellowships, including FRCP (Glasgow) and FISN. His contributions to Tropical Nephrology and dialysis innovation have earned him the Kerala State Government’s Best Doctor Award and numerous Lifetime Achievement honours.
